Chris King doesn’t release new components all that often, but it’s latest product will please those in the market for a super-high-end hub for a wide back ended DH or freeride bike. You can now get CK’s silky smooth performance and celebrated reliability in a 150mm rear hub configuration, complementing the already available 20 and 24mm through-axle front hubs.
With a 12mm one-piece axle, the hub weighs a respectable 336g. For comparison, a similar Shimano Saint hub weighs 525g and a DT 440 395g, so it’s certainly light for the intended usage. Extra ruggedness can be had with a stainless steel freehub replacing the stock aluminium item.
Available in nine colours and 32 or 36 hole formats, expect the hub to deliver that unique buzzzzz sound from the the 72 pawl ratchet freehub design, but don’t expect it to be cheap. While there’s no price yet, a standard 135mm Chris King hub retails for a whopping £333 – or the price of three Shimano hubs. But whatever the price we, still want one. In red…
