FSA goes compact

If you’re the sort of rider who might remove the inner chainring to save weight, then the new FSA compact chainset will interest you. Compact chainsets are rapidly becoming the norm on road bikes, offering lighter weight and a wide spread of gears, as well as looking nicer than triple chainsets.

FSA, with the K-Force Light MegaExo, are now bringing this concept to MTBs. Based on the K-Force Light cranks with hollow i-beam monocoque carbon arms, they should be light – a claimed 720g including a ceramic bottom bracket. The 44/29 should provide a wide spread of ratios with only the loss of the very lowest gears.

No price yet, but the road versions cost a weighty £459.99, so don’t expect the MTB version to be too much cheaper. Head over to www.fullspeedahead.com for more info.
