The problem with DH racing in this country is the relative lack of courses on proper mountains, which is why most local DH races are usually short affairs that creatively make the most of the available slope.
One solution would be to race several different, shorter courses, and add all the times up. Obviously that presents organisers with the opposite problem of needing a relatively small hill with several courses on it. Step forward Chicksands in Bedfordshire and the freshly-announced SixSixOne Mini Downhill.
On 17 February Chicksands will provide racers with three sub 60-second courses, with the times being added up to arrive at a cumulative time that will decide the winner.
There’ll be three categories including a Pro-Am class for experienced and semi-pro riders. Timing will be provided by the latest Tag Huer equipment. There won’t be an uplift, but pushing to the top of a one-minute course isn’t going to be much of a chore.
Prizes will be supplied by sponsors SixSixOne, Royal Clothing and Speedline for the top three in every category. There’s a cash prize pot for the Pro-Am racers.
Entry is limited to 200 riders so head over to www.minidownhill.com and get your entry form sent in.
