We’re always looking for new products to snack on at Bikemagic HQ so quickly snapped up the offer of a batch of samples from MOMA.
So what’s MOMA? Well, there are three products in their breakfast-based range – Oatie Shake, Hodge Podge and Oatie Breakfast, which we tried.
Available in five flavours – strawberry & banana, wild berry, blueberry, apple & peach, and banana & mango – it’s a 235g breakfast pot on-the-go made with jumbo oats, low-fat probiotic yoghurt and small pieces of real fruit.
The benefits of the oats are the same as in porridge – they will fill you up and are packed full of slow release energy. So, while the pots aren’t huge, it’s a good size to see you through until lunch. And the yoghurt helps keep digestion in check.
Oddly enough, each pot doesn’t come with any instructions, so we weren’t sure whether to just dive straight in and eat them cold, or pop it in the microwave for a minute or two.
We tried both, with the mirowaved version turning a little stodgy and, seeing as Oatie Breakfast’s are sold at seven stalls at London train stations to catch morning commuters (as well as in a variety of shops, including Waitrose and Sainsbury’s), we assume cold is the way to go.
And they taste pretty good fresh out of the pot, with the blend of oats and yoghurt working well, with the fruit packing a tasty punch. A healthy mix, all in all, with each pot containing around 300 calories.
We also dished a couple of pots out around the office for a second opinion and the feedback was positive: “After my daily 15-mile commute to work I normally dive into a big bowel of cereal however last week I was very pleased to mix it up with an Oatie Breakfast.
“This was great as I love porridge but am normally too lazy to make, it also meant I didn’t have my daily fight with the Milk Guardian on our floor.”
And there you have the real benefit of the Oatie Breakfast. Ok, at £1.45 a pop they’re not as cheap as plain old porridge but they won’t break the bank either. So if you’re in a rush, lazy or just want to try something new that tastes good, then you’re on to a winner.
