Original Source Mountain Mayhem took place over the weekend, the 11th running of the legendary 24hr race. And for the most part it was dry, a welcome change from the last couple of years. 2,351 competitors managed 12,040 laps between them, totalling an impressive 105,350 miles.

Winners included Matt Page in Solo Men with 26 laps. Matt also took the opportunity to propose to girlfriend Nia Harris: “The proposal has always been my intention – in fact I meant to do it last year but it didn’t go to plan as I had to pull out of the race after 14 hours. If I hadn’t won this year, Nia may have had to wait another year!”

Meggie Bichard won the Solo Women with 19 laps, while Team Scott won Elite Mixed with a startling 34 laps. There were of course many other categories, all with winners – full results are at www.osmountainmayhem.co.uk.

2009 was the first Mayhem with title sponsors Original Source – getting a manufacturer of shower gel on board was clearly a stroke of genius. Original Source didn’t just stump up cash and tens of thousands of shower gel sachets, though – it had staff racing too. Senior Brand Manager and team leader Nigel Wolstenhole said:

“The atmosphere at Original Source Mountain Mayhem was just skin-tingling. We’ve had an amazing response to the event, with the biggest number of applicants in the event’s history. Having participated in this year’s endurance race I can definitely say Original Source Mountain Mayhem is worth getting dirty for. It’s punishing but worth it. We’re already counting down until it’s time to do it all over again next year!”

Race organiser Patrick Adams said, “There are many components that put the event together and this year has really been amazing. Riders, spectators, ambulance teams, our headline sponsors, Original Source – it’s been a huge team effort and a fantastic event. We want to be back even bigger and better next year.”
