The second Altura MTB challenge will take place on 21 March at Whinlatter Forest, near Keswick.
The event will follow much the same format as the successful inaugural event in 2009, albeit with several improvements to make the experience even better.
The event is billed as a ‘XC mountain bike endurance event’ and with two course distances to choose from, should suit most ability and fitness levels. There’s a long 30 mile route or a new 15 mile option.
Although not as long as other enduro events, the steep and technical terrain should still make for a tough and challenging ride. Using a combination of the Altura Trail, bridleways and fire roads throughout the forest, the course promises fun, challenging singletrack descents and technical climbs along with short fast fire road sections.
Set in the Northern Lake District near Keswick, Whinlatter is the UK’s only mountain forest with a steep imposing landscape and spectacular views to the surrounding countryside. On site facilities also include a well stocked bike shop, Cyclewise, who offer bike hire and coaching and a large café and visitor centre to keep those not riding entertained.
After the success of last year’s event and with over 200 riders already entered this year, the Altura Whinlatter Challenge is shaping up to be an event not to be missed.
