We haven’t heard much from Pipedream for a while, it’s fair to say they’ve been off the radar since we reviewed the Sirius and I built up Project Pipedream several years ago.
They’ve been busy however, and are back for 2010 with a new Sirius. The new frame will be built from Reynolds 853 main tubes and 4130 CroMo tubes everywhere else. Geometry is the same as previous generations of the Sirrus and other notable details include gussets at the head tube junctions, sliding dropouts, fatter seatstays, clearance for 2.5in tyres and a curved seatstay bridge.
A target price of £300 makes it great value for money. When asked why they’ve set the price this low, Pipedream commented: “We’re riders too. We understand a self-build can be pricey, we’re committed to ‘honest to goodness’ value, we’ve no dealer margins to cover and we price for a global market.”
So there you go, a Reynolds 853 frameset for a killer price. There’s three sizes, 16.5, 18 and 19.5in to choose from and three colours, Kawasaki Green, Black and Metallic Grey.
Pipedream can offer build kits including Hope, Middleburn, FSA, Fox, Marzocchi and SRAM parts.
