It’s the UK’s biggest 24-hour race this weekend, the Original Source Mountain Mayhem which once again heads to Eastnor Castle in Ledbury, Herefordshire where over 2,500 riders are expected to descend.
Here’s an update from the organisers:
A range of attractions and entertainment is planned for the weekend, including the newly created Original Source Big Brother style Banter Box where racers and spectators can record video diaries capturing the spirit of the event, that will then be uploaded to the event website.
The Original Source tent will be at the heart of the action giving competitors the chance to freshen up with free shower gel samples, chat with the sponsor team and find out a little more about the brand, as well pick up some event goodies including mugs, t-shirts and sweatshirts from the Original Source Mountain Mayhem shop.
Amongst the intrepid participants currently training for the event, are the eight teams of Original Source ‘ambassadors’ chosen as worthy representatives of the spirit of the race. Each ambassador is competing to raise money for a charity or for an inspiring personal goal. They can be identified in their Original Source Mountain Mayhem jerseys, so give them a cheer if you spot them.
A Royal Marines climbing wall will put spectators’ stamina to the test and a variety of stalls will be offering free bike servicing and maintenance for competitors.
The University of Worcester’s Motion and Performance Centre will be on site with its sports science mobile unit. Staff will be available to share their expertise with performance improving tips as well as advice on sports nutrition, physiology and psychology and a bike fitting service.
Aston Martin, which has a team entered in the race, will have its latest sports car the Rapide on display, for those who are considering upgrading from their mountain bike.
Amongst the adult entrants are cyclists doing their bit for charity, those hoping to achieve personal goals and those entering just for the fun of it.
Teams representing the armed forces, police and fire services, families, boyfriends and girlfriends, novice riders and experienced riders alike, and even a plucky unicyclist, are all itching to get stuck into the 24-hour event.
The Original Source Mountain Mayhem event site at Eastnor Castle in Ledbury, Herefordshire includes acres of camping fields, including a quiet camping area for those who prefer a peaceful night’s sleep as well as a festival style camping area, and is open for free from Thursday 17th June through to Monday 21st June.
And of course, Original Source shower gel will be fully stocked in the shower cubicles throughout the weekend, to freshen up and re-energise the cycling warriors!
