The 13th edition of the Original Source Mountain Mayhem went ahead last weekend under clear blue skies at Eastnor park in Ledbury, Hertfordshire with a massive 2,500 riders pitting themselves against the ultimate challenge: riding around the clock.

The new course was well received by all riders I spoke to. Making the most of the landscape, the course was a challenging test for all, with some extremely tough and never-ending climbs with the reward of some decent grin-inducing singletrack. A new layout for the arena put more emphasis on the start/finish area of the course with a better view of incoming riders completing their laps, good for both the spectators and awaiting riders.

And more importantly of all, the weather stayed good. There were some dropped jaws as it began raining on Friday afternoon, but by the start of the race at 2pm Saturday it had turned into a pleasant summer’s day. It would remain like this throughout the weekend, leading to some parts of the trail being covered in a carpet of dust.
