WCPP riders Tracy Brunger & Ian Wilkinson scored their best ever International results at round 2 of the Tissot Mountain Bike World Cup at Mazatlan, Mexico. In the women’s event Tracy finished 12th after spending much of the race in the top ten, getting as high as 4th during the second of five laps that made up the 1hr 55min race. Tracy now lies 14th overall in the World Cup after two rounds. Caroline Alexander failed to finish, still suffering with a arm/shoulder injury from a crash two weeks ago. Other British riders Louise Robinson & Rachel Pickett finished 18th & 52nd respectively. In the Men’s race Ian Wilkinson made a massive leap to finish 28th & best Brit, a huge improvement on his previous best race finish at this level. He was closely followed by an unlucky Barrie Clarke in 33rd who was on track for a top 20 ride until he suffered a mechanical problem that delayed him on the fourth of the seven laps. Other British riders were Chris Eatough 39th, Paul Lasenby 42nd, Nick Craig 49th, Oli Beckinsale 56th & Phil Dixon 70th from the 139 starters. Ian Wilkinson was also 3rd U23 rider, Phil Dixon 13th. Next round of the World Cup takes place in Houffalize, Belgium on April30th. |
