Another classic Raleigh story from the industry insiders at Bikebiz as the planned new factory is stopped by militant allotment holders.
The gardeners, Trevor Rose, Ann Speirs and Herbert Hyman have lodged a case in the High Court to reverse the city council’s planning permission for the 250,000sq ft factory, granted in June of this year. This is despite council plans to spend £1m on relocating the Bulwell allotments including their precious topsoil and new sheds and loos.
Spokesman for the ‘Bulwell 3’, Ann Spiers said,
“It has taken years to get our allotments together and it is not that simple to move them to another site because it will take just as long to get build them up again.”
“We are not sure how long it might take to fight for all our hard work, but we will take the matter as far as we can to protect our allotments.”
In the meantime the court case may delay factory building by up to 6 months which could be a killer blow to Raleigh and it’s 500 workers. Council leader, Graham Chapman, has warned that jobs could be at risk if the gardeners persist: “They should think hard about what they are doing, putting the future of Raleigh in this city at risk.”

Hopefully they’ll get to the root of the problem shortly.
