Brighton’s legendary “Backyard Jam” BMX event will form the centrepiece of a
3-event Jam series this summer.
With its mix of the world’s best riders and local have-a-go heroes
strutting their stuff in a fantastic festival atmosphere, the Backyard Jam
was a jump / Dirt / Freestyle event of legendary standing. Now the
organisers, Seventies, have got tired of running the Airshow event at
the NEC Bike Show for the last four years instead, and are returning to their roots with the “Backyard Jam” series.
The Telford event
(March 16/17) will be indoors, with street and flatland sections on Saturday
(amateur and pro demo) and then the Pro comp on Sunday. The Hastings based event
(13/14 July) will have the full range of dirt, street, flatland, vert and
the infamous gap-jump in the summer seaside sunshine. Meanwhile the Derby event
in October will be more of a “run what you brung” style event.
Chris Holman of Seventies told us “We’re guaranteed a great turnout of Pro
riders just because Seventies are mates with them all! Etnies are
sponsoring the event, so their full team will be there and all the other
riders just love the laid-back atmosphere over here compared to the X-Games
and stuff.”
