Beating the roadies at their own game

It’s a well known fact that most top mountainbikers do the majority of their training on the road, but now they’re scaring the roadies at their own game.

World Champion Trek rider Roland Green has been giving America’s best a hard time in the Redlands Classic stage race in the US. Although he didn’t repeat his win of last years prologue time trial he kept up the pressure throughout the race, and spent much of the final day in a five man break that would have been his ticket to an overall win if they’d stayed away.

As it was they got caught, but Green still placed second overall behind winner Chris Horner, so expect the Trek/VW rider to start as he means to go on at the Sea Otter mtb season opener.

Ex-Volvo-Cannondale rider, Cadel Evans has now officially moved to the road full-time with team Mapei Quickstep and the Australian is already showcasing the climbing prowess that saw him dominate the MTB world cup scene a couple of years back. The penultimate stage of the Paris-Nice stage race saw him launch a blistering solo pursuit of eventual winner Dario Frigo, who only stayed clear as the mountain finish levelled off in the last kms. We look forward to seeing what he can do in the mountain stages of the big tours later this year.
