When we tested the new Pace RC36 Stealth fork we commented on Pace’s recommendation not to run disc rotors bigger than 165mm on their Hollowform fork range. We suggested that that might be a slight limitation, what with lots of people running 185s these days.
Well, Pace did some asking around, found out that loads of people have already been running 185s on Hollowforms for ages with no problem and decided to run some tests in the factory. As it turns out, the increased load on the fork isn’t as great as you’d think (being limited by the available traction between tyre and ground). And the Hollowform forks can deal with it easily. Pace have issued a Factory Update to this effect. They still don’t actively recommend that you run big rotors, but they don’t say you can’t any more. Obviously if you’re already doing it then this is of only passing interest, but if you’re avoiding buying the forks because of the rotor size limitation then avoid no more…
And while we’re here, this seems as good a time as any to plug Pace’s new website at www.pacecycles.com. The Flash of the old site has gone, the new one’s much swifter and more accessible…
