It’s a big weekend for Downhill, Cross Country and BMX with regional, national and international titles up for grabs.

The last round of the Scottish Downhill Series takes place at Ae Forest on Sunday. There’re 270 pre entered riders and nearly all the titles are still up for grabs. There’s a family race on Saturday straight after practice to keep you entertained, so it should be a great end to the season. For more information, call the SDA hotline 07817 040679

The British BMX Championships take place at Broadway House, Cheddar this weekend. It’s the last main event of the season and will attract over 350 competitors chasing titles from the 6 year olds through to the 40+. Racing starts at 10.00 on Sunday morning on the UK’s top BMX track. This is a unique event with riders competing for themselves and their region, rather than for a club or team. The last round of the Welsh XC race has been cancelled, so that leaves 3 big events for this weekend. The Newnham 90 at Newnham Park, Plymouth is back and will again prove popular with the riders. Entries have already gone past the 400 mark, so you know it’s going to be big one. For further information, call Martyn Salt on 01752 331770.

Checkendon, Reading is the location for the fifth and final round of the Giant NRS NPS Cross Country series. Entries are still available at the event, and this too promises to be a well attended and successful end to the XC season. For further information, call Ken Ward on 07761 330134. The organisers of the series are keen to make changes to the series for next year and are always looking for ideas. British Cycling will shortly be reviewing XC racing from the basic format to event cost, so look out for changes next year. A late addition to the calendar is the Lavington Blast. This is a 55km or 25km leisure ride and starts at Erlestoke near Devizes, Wiltshire. Lastly, it’s the final round of the Mountainbike World Cup in Kaprun, Austria. It’s good to see two British female riders in the top two Downhill positions going in to the final round, so good luck to both Tracy Moseley and Fionn Griffiths. We have seven male downhill riders in the top 30 positions, and all riders competing this weekend can improve on their overall ranking. The 4X should be a good event, with UK course builder Phil Saxena taking his skills to Kaprun after successfully building last weekend’s World Championship course. Look out for Dale Holmes, who has improved throughout the season and will also be racing back to the UK to defend his BMX title at Cheddar on Sunday.
