Mabie Forest’s latest amusement, the Dark Side trail, is both finished and freshly sponsored. So that’s the Kona Dark Side to you. It’s described as “one of the UK’s most challenging, technical, scary yet legal trails”. As well as all the usual sculpted singletrack and rock outcrops, KDS features 2km of timber trail. From what we can gather, the wooden stuff isn’t as gratuitous as some but returns to the spirit of the original North Shore stuff – it’s there to deal with marshy sections of unfeasibly large gaps between rocks.
That said, if you’re going to put constructions in then they might as well be interesting. And the 7stanes crew delivers, with suitably narrow, tall and wiggly wooden bits. Mabie Forest also offers Red, Blue and Green routes for the less adventurous (or foolhardy), along with a jump park and DH tracks.
There’s an official launch on 2/3 October in conjunction with sponsors Kona. It’ll be showing off it’s 2005 bike range and all are welcome. Check out www.konaworld.uk.com and www.7stanes.gov.uk for more details.
