It’s been a tense battle for victory in the UCI World Cup DH title race this season, but in the end the battle for supremacy came down to the final event in Windham, US with just a few points separating Gee Atherton and Greg Minnaar at the top of the table.
As the dust settled after an awesome day of racing, which saw Steve Peat’s hopes dashed with a last minute crash while setting a blistering time, Gee Atherton took the win by a scant 0.37 seconds.
Atherton took the title with 1229 points to Minnaar’s 1185. Sam Blenkinsop finished third in the 2010 series with 864 points. Talk about close!
Another Atherton, Rachel, took the win in the women’s race, rounding off the weekend rather nicely for the super fast siblings. Meanwhile Sabrina Jonnier won her fifth overall title. Jonnier, who finished eighth in the Final, took the title with 1130 points, followed by World Champion Emmeline Ragot at 1045 and Tracy Moseley with 909.
