Back in the depths of time (ok, the early 90’s), a era which saw thousands dip into their savings for a pair of bear trap pedals, magura brakes and some Oakley O-Frame goggles, a crop of videos were released that have yet to be bettered in terms of displaying UK mountain biking at its most raw and exciting. So let’s go on a trip down memory lane to a time when hair was long, jeans were baggy and mountain bike videos were still fun.
Cast your minds back to the early nineties and you will remember that not only was Mountain Biking UK a magazine, it was also involved in the production of mountain bike videos that had a personality and vibe that was as unique as the magazine itself.
Its first standout video was the classic ‘Dirt’, which featured such legendary characters of the UK MTB scene as Dave Hemmings, Jez Avery, Rob Warner and of course, Jason ‘JMC’ McRoy (who sadly passed away in 1995).
The standout scene is shown in the video above – a summer’s day, mates hanging out in a field and riding bikes just for the hell of it. Keep watching the video for a sequence of pure nineties brilliance – a MBUK photo shoot complete with one hand skids, water riding and wheelies – oh so many wheelies.
There’s tons more old school videos out there. What’s your favourite?
