It’s all go over at West Drayton Mountain Bike Club. The racing wing of the club has got long-time sponsors Beyond Mountain Bikes signed up for another year and has also got a deal with Specialized. The team has been joined by prolific Youth winner Toby Meadows and several riders from the 2005 Titus team including Southen XC star George Budd.
The event organising wing has been busy too. Here’s the 2006 programme:
26 March – Black Park XC race
This venue was used in 2005 for the first time in 15 years, and it’s back for 2006. It’s described as “fast, flat but technical in places” and ideal for the newcomer. The slightly extended lap distance will be 2.5-3 miles.
1 April – Hillingdon Road Race
We’re just mentioning this for completeness and in case anyone out there fancies a stab at a road race…
4 June – 100km Enduro
Despite its location inside the M25 at Denham Country Park, West Drayton MBCs enduro event is, by all accounts, a fairly hefty test. The course takes in plenty of singletrack in the Chiltern Hills and in 2005 even the fast riders took around seven hours to complete 100km. If you can’t spare the time, there are 40 or 70km options too. It might be a little quicker this year as it’s now in June, so the course may be drier. Free refreshments, fully waymarked route, all the trimmings.
30 July – Southern XC Round 4
Bordon in Hampshire was a favourite circuit in the 2004 Southern XC series and West Drayton MBC will be assembling all the best bits for 2006 to come up with a “fast and technical” circuit.
8 Oct (tbc) – Ash Classic
WDMBC has been racing at Ash Ranges for fifteen years. It’s a splendid spot, all ups and downs and twisties. The Ash Classic will include the Team Challenge.
