If you’re stuck with nothing to do this fine winter weekend then it might be an idea to check out the ninth annual Real Ale Wobble which takes place around Llanwrtyd Wells, the smallest town in Britain.
This non-competitive event is held in conjunction with the Mid-Wales Beer festival and offers free real ale at the checkpoints. Needless to say then, all routes will be off road, using farm and forest tracks, paths, open land and “wild and desolate mountain terrain”.
There are several lengths of route to choose from 15, 25 or 40 miles each day and all routes are waymarked. The cost of taking part is £25 including refreshments and first aid cover.
For anyone wanting to drag along wheeless friends or family there’s also mountain bike hire from the local Mountain Bike Centre at the Neuadd Arms Hotel, telephone (01591 610236).
