September 6/7 sees the Trail Break South Downs Way Lemming, a 100 mile enduro along one of the UK’s best-known long distance trails.
Trail Break have been running the SDW Lemming since 1996. TB have a close association with the South Downs Way – they had a lot to do with getting the 20 miles between Winchester and Petersfield properly signed up and linked with bridleways, and the Harveys map of the Way was originally commissioned by Trail Break.
As is the norm with Trail Break events, the SDW Lemming is fully supported. There’ll be regular checkpoints with drinks and food, a van to take your stuff to the overnight stop (camping or YHA), BBQ evening meal (yes, beer will be available), breakfast and finally a coach trip back to the start. All you have to do is pedal – you’ll get an average speed at the end, just so you know.
It’s not a ride to be underestimated. The South Downs aren’t the tallest hills in the world but the Way has a habit of repeatedly descending all the way to sea level and then climbing back out again…
Trail Break are expecting over 200 riders to take part, and would be deeply grateful if anyone planning to enter does so as soon as possible – it’s probably a UK weather thing, or just slackness, but everyone seems to leave it to the last minute which gives TB a hard time and can result in disappointment all round.
