This is Pieter de Hart. He’s a World Record Holder. You can probably take a guess at what record he holds – yes, the World Backwards Hour Record. His 29.1km in an hour may look a little slow next to the UCI World Hour Record – they keep moving the goalposts around and we’ve kind of lost track but it’s somewhere around the 50km mark – but he set it outdoors on a mountain bike and, well, sitting on the handlebars and facing the wrong way…
So, pretty impressive really. But it’s not enough for Pieter. He wants to push the backwards record to over 30km, and will be attempting this feat at Millbrook Proving Ground this summer. 25 August, to be precise. He’ll also be carrying on to attempt to cover 50km in under 1:46.59…
I think we can safely say he’s clearly a couple of spokes short of a full wheel, but hats off and good luck to him all the same. More about Pieter and his record attempt at www.kelimutu.com.
