Those good old pick up drivin’ ranchers are on the warpath after one of their herd allegedly almost spilled his Bud’ swerving to avoid a group of riders on a Texan ranch road.
Despite Texas being larger than most countries, there’s apparently not enough room for bikes. Legislation is now being prposed that would limit riders to riding single file, prohibit groups of more than 3 riders from riding on rural roads and require a cyclist to attach a “Slow Moving Vehicle” emblem to themselves.
Of course the law is being pushed on the basis of “cycle safety” rather than the real “get these damned bikes outta the way of ma truck” reasoning, and it’s likely to be supported by most road using groups sick of having to wipe cyclist stains off their super wide Chevy’s.
Another theory is that it’s a French conspiracy to force Lance Armstrong (whose home town is Austin, Texas) into retirement rather than face the humiliation of riding round with a slow moving vehicle sign on his butt.
As usual, more if we get it, but we’d scratch Texas off your “big group ride road trip plans” for the time being.
