Following the success of the recent TrailWyre Trailquest event at Clent, two evening Trailquests will be held in May and June. Trailquests are mountain bike orienteering events using bridleways, forest tracks, public roads and byways. Riders can compete in pairs or as a solo and the aim is to navigate from control to control, collecting as many points as possible, within your ability and then returning within the time limit or penalty points are incurred. You choose the route between the controls.
The participation is very wide, from super fit MTBers to families wanting a cycling day out with a difference. One fact is that the Vet, Supervet and Masters Ccasses consistently perform as well or better than their juniors – experience obviously counts for something. Events are usually up to five hours long – the May and June ones with which we’re concerned here are short, two hour affairs.
The first event is on Tuesday 16 May starting at Wolverley Memorial Hall, Wolverley, near Kidderminster, while the second in on Tuesday 13 June from Bobbington Village Hall, Bobbington, near Womborne. Registration in bothe cases is between 5.30 and 6.30pm with start times between 6 and 6.45pm.
Pre-entered competitors will receive a free colour map extract with all the control points premarked. You can save money by pre-entering both events, and there’ll be free refreshments after each. For more information on Trailquest and an entry form, go to either http://www.trailquest.co.uk or http://www.trailblazers-cycling.org.uk/ where full details, including where to send your entry, are available.
