Steve Peat took a clear victory in this weekend’s World Cup downhill opener, while another British rider, 18 year old Fionn Griffiths put in a storming run to place to take 5th. A strong British show in the womens event also saw Tracey Moseley in 9th and Helen Mortimer in 10th.
The 2km course was a shorter and faster version of last years, with top riders clocking nearly 90km/h throught the fastest sections!
Peat was delighted to finish 0.44 seconds ahead of Vouilloz and 3.71 clear of Fabien Barel in third. “The course was excellent! Last year I had a bad semi-final run so I started early in the final. Vouilloz heard about my time, attacked and won. I’m not sure he knew my time today, he only started 6 minutes behind me. I just lost speed once, just before the rocks. The season is going to be interesting!”
The Downhill and Dual World Cup moves to Vars, France, next weekend. Full results on the UCI website.
