For many cyclists the worry of being a victim of bike theft is a pertinent one. Locks, as some of us know too well, aren’t always enough to protect a bike from thieves.
French company, Connected Cycles, have come up with a possible solution to this problem. They have developed a so-called ‘smart’ pedal which informs users (by way of a smartphone app) when their bike has been moved, as well as allowing forgetful riders to locate where they last left their bike.

The pedal is also able to automatically record speed, route, incline, and calories burned each time the bike is ridden. No need to worry about re-charging either, with the pedal described as being ‘self-governing’, meaning it generates its own energy and has its own Internet, so it will work anywhere in the world.
For those of you thinking a potential thief would be able to bypass the tracking device by simply removing the pedal, then worry not as the pedal is only removable by a coded key possessed by the rider.
Connected Cycles hope to have the pedal ready and available for sale by the summertime, with the price yet to be decided.
