A lovely day with only a slight wind. However the roads had above average
kimakazee motorists in action.
In the group AB (40-49)
Gold Medal Winner after a hard sprint Robert Wilson, CRT Inverclyde
Silver Medal Winner Billy Matthews fron the West Highland Wheelers
Bronze Medal Winner Paul O Brien. Nightingale at 1 min 12seconds
The group CD (50-59) Were subjected to a real pasting by two english riders
from the Burneside Wheelers. The “Flower of Scotland” CD was quietly put
away as Dereck Hayes crossed the line 58 seconds from the struggling bunch.
Unfortunately Dereck could’nt be awarded the Championship Gold Medal(cos
he’s English) so the winner of the CD Group was Calum Neil, Glasgow
Nightingale. The Silver medal went to Mike McPherson, Velo Sportiv with the
Bronze to Neil McFarlane. In between in actual third was yet another english
rider Ian Grant, Burnside Wheelers who with his partner Dereck Hayles had
EF(60-69)+G Group(70 to whatever), the old codgers was won by 72 year Jim
Reid, Glasgow Nightingale. With a 12 minute start over his group, the lone
Jim Reid pushed on to finish some 6 minutes ahead of his age group.
The Champion Gold medal winner in the EF went to Sandy Bain Lanark Valley
with Dave McCallum from Dundee pulling the silver medal over his balding
head. The Bronze went to Bill Moore, Fullarton Wheelers.
The usual complaints followed on. One such complaint was that “Nibby” always
went to the front at Port of Menteith where he lives. The whole population
of seven turned out to cheer. A great race, good competition and remember as
winner Robert Wilson said, “good sports are never good at sport”
