Salisbury Plain MTB club SPAMbiking (now responsible for the legendary Salisbury Plain Challenge winter enduro) is promoting a new 12-hour race on 8/9 July. In the style of the popular Dusk Til Dawn in Thetford Forest, Set2Rise runs from 8pm on the Saturday until 8am on the Sunday. Being somewhat more in the middle of the summer, though, it won’t be dark for the whole thing – if our calculations are correct, it’ll be sunset about 45 minutes after the start but it’ll be back up with four hours to go.
The seven mile course will run from the event HQ at Tilshead near Salisbury and will include wooded singletrack, gravel tracks, grassy bits – plenty of variety. You can race solo, as a pair or in a team and there’s also singlespeed and tandem subcategories. There’ll be catering available all night and free camping on Friday and Saturday nights. Entry fees are a very reasonable £25 per person – further details and entry forms at www.spambiking.co.uk.
