Rollapaluza will be taking its unique brand of roller racing to Bristol’s Mud Dock Café in association with Iron Horse on Wednesday 5 November.
Never heard of roller racing? That’s okay, it’s about as simple as it gets: two stationary bicycles on rollers side-by-side with riders racing over a simulated 500m distance. Both bikes are connected to a huge dial that tracks each rider’s progress. Expect much frenetic spinning and high revolutions, with speeds of up to 50mph apparently capable.
The event is sponsored by Iron Horse bikes so the two bikes will be pimped Iron Horse Transit bikes. The fastest male and female rider on the night will get to take home one of the very bikes they have been racing on all evening. Iron Horse will also be present with some of their 2009 range to show.
“We are planning on creating a real party atmosphere and encourage anyone to get involved, commuters, hardcore single speed fans, roadies and mountain bikers alike,” says the press release. “Mud Dock will be putting on drinks promotions and food will be available too. There may even be some fire works!”
Racing takes place between 7pm and 11pm. It’s free to get in (but a fiver to race), so if you’re in Bristol there’s nothing stopping you.
