Llanwrtyd Wells in mid-Wales is apparently Britain’s smallest town. It’s also home to probably the oldest MTB centre in the country, with the Red Kite MTB Centre opening its doors in 1985 when only about eight people had mountain bikes. Since then it’s been host to tons of legendary events including the Man vs Horse vs Bike (now unfortunately just Man vs Horse), World Bog-Snorkelling Championships, Real Ale Wobble and of course the annual Red Kite MTB Bash. The 2004 Bash will be the eleventh and will be held from 5-8 August 2004.
The Bash features four days of guided/waymarked rides around the Cambrian Mountains. There are miles of trails to choose from and there’ll be rides to suit all abilities, including family-friendly routes, and night rides for those for whom merely riding all the daylight hours just isn’t enough. Alternatively you can spend convivial evenings in one of Llanwrtyd’s surprisingly large number of pubs. It’s a very agreeable spot with some great riding.
There are various accommodation options in and around LLanwrtyd Wells – further details are on the event website or call Gareth Rowland on 01591 610509.
