If a bloke in a stripey top, wearing a mask, several pairs of
pants and carrying a bag marked swag gives you the timeless come-on:
‘Ere mate, wanna buy 1800 new bike mags cheap, like?’ Just say
no!
It’s not that Singletrack, the spawn of bike site Go-Far and
edited by spiritual single-speed guru Chipps Chippendale, isn’t worth
buying, just that the 1800 copies of the magazine went walkies from
the Singletrack van in the NEC car park at the weekend.
The Singletrackers were left with just 1000 copies to sell on
their Bike 2001 stand, when their van – complete with a couple of
digital cameras, a lap top, the rest of the magazines and, er, their
pants – was half-inched on Saturday night.
Rumours that the perpetrators were BIKEmagic staff desperate for a
review copy of the new mag were emphatically denied by BM’s Cullen
Ward and Scoop, though strangely both have since been spotted leaving
the country, though not together.
Apparently the van has been found, complete with magazines and is
now in the custody of the local constabulary. Though the Singletrack
staff are still apparently bereft of pants. Apparently the thieves
were underwhelmed by their fashion sense to the point where they
dumped them out of the back of the van on Colehill High Street – see the forum thread below. A tad
harsh we reckon.
