Former DH World Cup Champ Steve Peat will be riding a whole lot more Race Face stuff for the next two seasons – he’s signed a deal to ride a load of bits from Race Face’s expanded Diabolus DH/freeride range. Peat’s already been riding RF’s cranks for a while, but for 2004 and 2005 he’ll be using stems, bars, grips, headsets and seatposts too.
In one of those quotes that we can’t quite imagine ever being spoken out loud, Peat said: “At last I get to ride all the cool stuff Race Face makes. Having just been riding the awesome cranks last season now it’s my time to ride the rest of the range. I will be using the Diabolus line of hard-core products in all my DH/and freeride events thanks to the boys in BC.”
Amongst the bits Steve’ll be using are Race Face’s all-new X-Type cranks. The X-Type system is similar to Shimano’s Hollowtech II, with oversize bottom bracket bearings in outboard cups and a large pipe spindle permanently attached to one crank arm. The big difference with X-Type is that the spindle is permanently attached to the left crank rather than the right.
Pictured is the Diabolus crank that Peat will be using for downhill and freeride. He’ll be running the lighter Atlas unit for 4X to shave a bit of weight. With any luck it’ll all help him to regain that World Cup title…
