Peat storms to convincing World Cup win again

Sounds like the alpine resort of Vars got clobbered by the same weather we were “enjoying” late last week, with thunderstorms so severe that they had to cancel the Dual race on Saturday. With showers and dry spells creating a treacherous and constantly changing course Steve Peat used his experience of this typically British summer weather, storming to a clear 1.5 second victory ahead of Christian Kovarich. Even the normally unflappable Vouilloz struggled, coming in 5th, 7.5 seconds after Peat. This leaves Peat clear at the top of the overall standings with maximum points.

Anne- Caroline Chausson upheld French honours in the womens race, but Fionn Griffiths, Tracy Moseley and Helen Gaskell all had excellent races. Unfortunately we can’t tell you exactly how excellent as the UCI haven’t put the times up yet. Overall standings after two rounds see Chausson and Giove (on her new Orange) in first and second with Fionn a brilliant 4th and Tracy Moseley in 7th.
