Registration for the Pass’Portes du Soleil will open at 9am on Wednesday February 15.
The 2012 edition will take place between June 29-July 1, with a choice of nine resorts to start the 80km ride from: Avoriaz, Châtel, Les Gets, Montriond-Les Lindarets and Morzine on the French side, and Champéry, Les Crosets, Morgins and Torgon on the Swiss side. That means riders are distributed evenly around the circuit, cutting down on queues on the singletrack.
The ride includes 8,000m of descending and just 1,000m of climbing, with the rest done with the help of the region’s extensive lift system. Eight food stops serving local specialities will keep riders fuelled.
The Pass’Portes du Soleil MTB Show will be held in Morzine this year, with a host of test bikes to try from all the top manufacturers. New for 2012 is a race in the village itself.
Entry for a day’s riding costs just €45 and includes a personalised number plate which gives you access to all the lifts, a wristband which gives you access to the food stops, a road book containing route info and details of the alternative routes and a lift pass voucher valid for another day biking or skiing in the Portes du Soleil.
And you can make it a family affair with the Pass’Portes Kids ride for children aged 9-14. The ride departs from Morzine and is led by MCF instructors. Registration costs €20.
