Want a bit of cycling history? In October 2000 Chris Boardman broke the World Hour Record, held by Eddie Merckx for the previous 28 years. Now Procycling magazine is holding a charity auction for one of the bikes ‘used’ in the attempt.
We say ‘used’ because the bike being auctioned isn’t actually the one that Boardman rode. The rules state that if you’re attempting the record you have to show up with two identical bikes, and this is the other one. You could argue that describing this as ‘Boardman’s World Record Setting Bike’ and ‘one of the bikes that carried Boardman to his historic success’ is stretching the truth a bit, but then he couldn’t have done it without this bike so there’s something to it.
Anyway, it’s rather a lovely thing and all proceeds go to The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths. The bike’s being auctioned on ebay:
