The National Points series kicks off at Thetford Forest on the 25th of March, so get your woodworking skills honed if you fancy joining Britain’s whippets on this excellent singletrack course.
What it lacks in hills it more than makes up for in twistiness with four bombholes to keep riders on their toes or over the bars. Even if you don’t fancy racing, the course runs through the start finish area four times a lap (which should confuse the hell out of anyone trying to follow the action) and the inevitable vulture crew will be found spectating at the first two bombholes which are only 500m from the start. The organisers also promise a quality “trade village”.
Late starters will also be pleased with the timetable which sets off Sports and Fun riders in the middle of the afternoon, so bring your lights if you’re not quite up to speed yet.
9.15: Youth and Juvenile Race (prize presentation 11.15)
10.30: Junior, Master (over 30) and Veteran (over 40) Race (prize presentation 13.00)
12.45: Elite and Expert Race (prize presentation 15.15).
15.10 Sport, Open and Fun Race (prize presentation16.45).
How Do You Get There?
As a general rule of thumb for Norfolk, wherever you are in the country start off by heading downhill. If you’re coming from the south on the M11, the west on the A14 or the north on the A14, turn off on to the A11 north towards Norwich. Turn left on to the B1106 at Elveden crossroads, signposted Elveden Forest. After about three miles turn right at Fire Route Ten and follow the AA signs to the event village.
