Switzerland has selected its first athlete for the London 2012 Olympic Games by rubber-stamping Nino Schurter’s place in the men’s cross-country race.
Swiss Olympic selection committee president Gian Gilli confirmed Schurter’s selection after the Scott rider once again proved his medal pedigree by claiming silver behind the Czech Republic’s Jaroslav Kulhavy at the World Championships in Champery, Switzerland, earlier this month.
The 25-year-old Schurter won bronze at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, before being crowned world champion a year later.
Schurter did not compete in the Hadleigh Farm International, the official London 2012 test event held in July and won by two-time Olympic champion Julien Absalon.
