New sponsor for Kate Potter

The Cotic Soda

Cotic are pleased to announce their first race team, featuring rising endurance and XC racing star Kate Potter. She will be riding for Cotic Bontrager, in 2007, fully supported by Cotic Bikes, a UK designed bike brand with Bontrager wheelworks and Components.

Kate has been racing for three seasons now, with the latter two seasons seeing her sponsored at a semi-professional level. There has been considerable success during this time, with Kate scoring a hat-trick of Solo wins at the Sleepless in the Saddle 24hr races, as well as placing in the top three overall in the UK National Points series for the past two years. As if that wasn’t enough, Kate is also the co-owner of – and guide for – the mountain bike holiday company A Quick Release (AQR). At the end of another successful season in 2006, Kate felt she needed to move on in order to progress further and fulfill her potential as a mountain bike athlete, and we here at Cotic were happy to build our first racing effort around her.

“We are so excited about the possibilities for next year” says Cotic’s owner Cy Turner. “I’ve known Kate for a long time now, and right from the start I could see her potential. It’s great to be able to push her further along in her career offering the support she deserves, and when the guys at Bontrager agreed to co-title sponsor the team it was just the dream ticket. I couldn’t be happier with the set up we’ve put together, and I want to thank all our sponsors for getting behind us so firmly.”

Kate Potter – always smiling!

Kate Potter is equally positive: “I’m very excited about being part of Cotic-Bontrager and racing the Soda which I know is very versatile machine, both on and off the race course. I first met Cy when I started mountain biking and he was in the middle of developing the Soul bike. Since then Cy has been a great influence on my development as a mountain bike rider, but more importantly has always been interested in my racing. Cy understands my love for mountain bike adventure and the challenges I set myself each year on the race course.”

She continues, “I’m also grateful to be co-sponsored by Bontrager, a company and a man who over the years has contributed a great deal to both the cross country and endurance racing scene here in the UK. Keith Bontrager and Cy Turner are more than just successful engineers; they are mountain bikers through and through and participate wholeheartedly in UK mountain bike events. I am very privileged to be racing for Cotic Bontrager, and look forward to all the races and challenges that lay ahead in the 2007 race season.”

Along with title sponsors Cotic and Bontrager, the team will be running Pace’s fantastic RC39 forks and waterproof jackets, Hope headsets and brakes, Crank Brothers pedals, tools and pumps, NiteRider lighting systems and SRAM drivetrain. Kate will be trained and fuelled by Torq fitness, and will use Nike Cycling shoes and casual wear.

As well as her Soda hardtail, Kate will be aiding in the development of a new lightweight, short travel full suspension frame, which Cotic, are designing specifically for her and the requirements of long distance racing. In addition to this, Kate will also be riding a Cotic Soul on guiding and training duties out in the Pyrenees and in the UK when working for AQR between racing and promotional duties.
You’ll be able to see Kate and Cotic Bontrager at the following races next season: UK National Points Series and Marathons, Enduro 6, Mountain Mayhem, Bontrager 24/12, and selected other events.
