There’s no shortage of charity rides to get involved in these days, but this one’s a little more imaginative than most. A group of charities – Norwood, the Down’s Syndrome Association and Capital FM’s Help A London Child – and principal sponsor Property Week are organising a charity ride around the streets of London (stop singing…) visiting streets that feature on a Monopoly board.
The ride takes place on 7 September 2003, and follows an almost completely flat course. It’s nearly twenty miles long, but the lack of hills should make it novice-friendly. On the way, you’ll visit Euston and Whitechapel Road, Fleet Street, The Strand, Northumberland Avenue, Trafalgar and Leicester Square and of course King’s Cross, Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street stations. As far as we can tell you don’t get to build any hotels, though.
Riders can set off between 8 and 9.30am from Marylebone Station and ride at their own pace. The Monopoly Bike Ride coincides with
the Regent Street Carnival – participants will be able to ride parts of the carnival route and soak up the carnival fun whilst cycling along normally restricted or pedestrian-only areas such as Carnaby Street.
Riders are encouraged to raise a minimum of £200 in sponsorship (it’s a “Pass Go” thing, you see). There’s a registration fee (£20 for adults, £10 for students), which includes a free T-shirt, parking, route map and refreshments.
