Team Wiggle’s Matt Page finished sixth at the Solo 24 Hour World Championships in Australia to emerge as the top European rider at the event.
Australian Jason English was triumphant on home soil having completed 24 laps of the course, with Page three laps back.
Canada’s Cory Wallace was second, while Australia’s Andrew Fellows was third, both with 23 laps under their belts.
“The Aussies were dominant on home soil,” said Page. “It was the conditions rather than the competition I found toughest.
“I struggled in the very dry heat. I’ve never ridden in conditions like it. The course was extremely brutal, but thanks to good choice in kit I suffered far less than others.
“My Ergon grips were a godsend, as was having 120mm of travel on the bike. I think the most important product were my Exposure lights. With 12 hours of darkness they really helped me make up ground when the temperatures were cooler.”
Wiggle bike mechanic Ben Jeffrey, together with Matt’s fiancée Nia, ran a slick pit set-up.
Page added: “They were awesome and deserve a lot of praise. I couldn’t have done it without them.”
