Martinez Wins Cross-County Gold
The Great Britain team ended the World Mountain Bike Championships in Spain on a quiet note, with Oli Beckingsale in 37th their highest placed rider in the Elite Men’s Cross-Country. In the absence of Barrie Clarke and Nick Craig, the team were always going to struggle to make an impact in arguably the most competitive category of all.
The title went to Miguel Martinez, France’s fourth gold of the Championships. Roland Green won Canada’s second silver of the day and Bart Brentjens (Ned) took bronze.
GB Manager Simon Burney was pleased with Oli’s ride:
”With no Elite Men in the top continental teams, we were always going to struggle today. In the circumstances, Oli’s ride was a good one. He had no problems, except a nose-bleed, probably caused by the altitude, and he made steady progress through the field.”
