Last year CTC launched a mountain bike training programme, offering weekend technique courses aimed at complete off-road beginners. 2004 was sufficiently successful that the programme is being extended for 2005, with course based at quality accommodation in the Surrey Hills, South Wales and the East Midlands.
CTC has a team of experienced instructors, including female instructors who’ll be running women-only courses. All courses cover basic skills including bike safety and trail etiquette. You don’t even need a bike – participants will have the use of a decent Marin bike.
CTC Cycle Training Co-ordinator, Greg Woodford, says: “Many people, especially those who live in cities, buy mountain bikes but never learn to make the most of them off road. These courses are designed for people who want to get the most out of the sport, but who aren’t afraid to admit they want to learn the basics.”
Courses cost £249pp and there are weekends available throughout the year. That’s an all-inclusive price covering accommodation, food, use of a Marin mountain bike and all tuition. There are weekends available throughout the year.
