Kona has been involved in the development of bike parks – lift-assisted, downhill-oriented, trail networks – for quite a while. It’s got a seven-year association with the pioneering Whistler Bike Park in Canada, and supports several other parks across North America and Europe.
Now Kona’s extending its influence in the world of bike parks by teaming up (or “conspiring” in press release-speak) with Whistler’s Gravity Logic – “the world leaders in bike park design” – to work on developing yet more parks at resorts keen to boost summer business.
The Kona-Gravity Logic Conspiracy (there they go again) “believe[s] [that] if bike parks are going to flourish, it is critical to develop ski area-like trail systems at bike parks worldwide, with trails for riders of beginner, moderate or expert ability, as well as a quality rental fleet of durable, high-performance bikes available, so that families and riders of all types can enjoy the trails.”
The Whistler Bike Park is expected to get 100,000 rider visits this year, and apparently the Kona rental fleet has racked up over 2,000,000 feet of descending without a frame failure. So between them Kona and Gravity Logic know how to develop a bike park.
