This remarkable airborne device is a KMX Kart, an actually rather splendid-looking hybrid of recumbent trike, go-kart and BMX. Could this be the new Chopper, the (sort of) bike that every kid wants? That’s the hope of (unrelated) KMX Kart partners Barry and Alan Smith. The first KMX Kart was built by Barry for his kids, and attracted so much attention that he and his wife decided to start a company to make them. Teaming up with Alan, the fledgling company was approached by a manufacturer in Taiwan after a story appeared on UK bike trade website BikeBiz.
And now the first batch of 300 KMX Karts have landed in the UK. The “K Class” is suitable for 8 to 14 year olds, is adjustable to accomodate a wide range of heights and uses lots of BMX parts so there’s plenty of customising and upgrading potential.
Before anyone asks, yes, they’re working on an adult version… More information from www.kmxkarts.co.uk.
