Glentress Forest is one of Britain’s most popular MTB destinations thanks to the winning combination of great trails and top nosh at The Hub café. But it could get even better. Forestry Commission Scotland has hatched an ambitious expansion plan and have hired eco-friendly architects Gaia to develop a master plan.

Stuff on the take includes a new forest centre with “state-of-the-art facilities” for rider, walkers, equestrians and other visitors. Reassuringly, FC Scotland seems fully aware of what makes Glentress such a success, and the plan is intended to support and build on The Hub’s facilities. Obviously there’s no point putting a load of money in to something that people don’t want, so there’ll be considerable consultation with forest users as the plan is developed. According to FC Scotland’s Steve Penny, “Everyone comments positively on the trails and the friendly, laid-back atmosphere at Glentress. In our opinion, the best way to make sure this continues is to get direct input and feedback from mountain bikers themselves.”
