The GB cycling team will be riding almost exclusively foreign parts on their bikes
next year following a tendering process, carried out on purely financial grounds,
on behalf of the British Cycling Federation’s World Class Performance Programme by
BDJ Consultancy Ltd. Trek have been announced as the suppliers of Road and Mountain
bikes to the GB Team in 2000.

The only British equipment being supplied to the team is Impsport clothing, a company
owned by BCF past president Ian Emmerson.

BCF Press Officer Philip Ingham told BIKEmagic that the choice of components came
down to a purely financial decision, based on quotes received in response to adverts
in the UK cycling press. “There’s no bias, it’s purely financial, but every
£10000 we can save on the bike deal we can spend on an athlete. Peter Keen
has said that he’d love to use British kit right across the board, but if they’re
not competitive, it’s not that simple.”

Hopes to keep the British flag flying were still high, as he speculated that UK builder
Hotta could well be the manufacturer supplying the WCPP track bikes.
