Final 2009 Kona Mash-Up

Less than a week to go before the Winter Kona Mash-Up gets going at the Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre in Afan Forest near Port Talbot. The 2nd Kona Mash-Up will take place on Saturday the 5th of December with the registration being open on Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning.

Entries have been coming in thick and fast over the last few days with more than 350 riders currently on our start list. There are still places available so if you haven’t entered yet make sure you get in soon. You can still enter online at www.konamashup.co.uk. Riders can enter on the line either at Friday afternoon/evening or on Saturday morning, but there is a £5 day entry surcharge though.

Registration will open at 5pm on Friday (4 December) afternoon and will stay open till around 8pm. It will reopen on Saturday (5 December) morning at 8am and will stay open till 12pm.

Due to the shorter daylight hours the timing on the July trail (only relevant for Endurance category riders) is only open from 9am to 1pm. The timed sections on the White’s Level trail (relevant to both categories) are open from 9am – 4pm. We will reserve the right to shorten the timing due to reduced light or adverse weather conditions. This will be announced before the start.

Riders can start their ride (from the Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre) at 9am on Saturday. There is no preset start time for riders and riders can start as late as 12pm (noon) – please keep in mind though that the timing on the July trail finishes at 1pm.

It is very important that you finish all timed sections by 4pm on the Whites Level trail and by 1pm on the July trail as only runs finished before these times can be considered in the overall and stage rankings.

We will set up the little event village (weather permitting) at the top of the climb (Windy Point) again where we will have some basic refreshments provided by the Drop Off Café who will take their new Drop Off Bus to the top. So take a few quid with you if you think you need to fuel up. We will also have some further shelter and hopefully some patio heaters up there in case it gets cold.

At the Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre you will find the registration and event HQ, the Drop Off Café open as usual, Skyline Cycles open for business as well as changing, shower and toilet facilities.
