Design a trail obstacle

Ingrebourne Hill, South Hornchurch, is a 183 acre site and part of the Thames Chase Community Forest. It’s also home to an imminent new trail project as part of the leisure-oriented redevelopment of the site. The Forestry Commission’s big thing with the scheme is the involvement of the local community, and to that end it’s running a competition to design a challenging feature for the mountain bike trail.

You’ll need to be a resident of the London borough of Havering to enter, and there are two age groups – 6-11 and 12-18. There’ll be a first prize – a bike, helmet and accessories – and four runners-up prizes for each group. Plus of course the winning feature will be built at Ingrebourne and might even end up named after its designer.

Forestry Commission Community Ranger Luke Everitt said: “This competition is a great way for local young people to help design something which can be enjoyed by them and the rest of the community around Ingrebourne Hill. Good luck to all who enter!”

To get an official entry pack, including all the information necesary to design your feature, either call 01708 642694, email [email protected] or write to Freepost My View of Ingrebourne Hill, The Forest Centre, Pike Lane, Cranham, Upminster, Essex RM14 3NS.

The closing date for entries, limited to one per person, is 21 September, and the results will be announced in the week commencing 5 October. The freshly-developed Ingrebourne Hill will be opened to the public in Spring 2008. Find out more at www.forestry.gov.uk/ingrebourne.
