The recently-opened Y Mynydd Mojo downhill track at Cwmcarn is a blast, but one of the drawbacks of a nearly-2km course with 250m of vertical drop is that it’s inevitably a fair way to the top. Help is at hand, though – Forestry Commission Wales is looking for someone to run a proper uplift service.
It wants to hear from a suitably qualified operator to run an uplift service for mountain bikers – a minibus and trailer or similar to take riders and their bikes up the hill to the start of the downhill trail. The route will follow Cwmcarn Forest Drive, so there will also be an opportunity to provide a service to other visitors who want to gain access to Twmbarlwm Mountain or other areas of the Forest Drive.
Y Mynydd Moho was jointly funded by FC Wales, Caerphilly County Borough Council, Adfywio and locally-based Fox distributors and suspension tuners Mojo. It was designed and built by Phil Saxena, who’s done a thoroughly exciting job while still keeping the track ridable by mere mortals.
The proposed uplift service will run for 363 days of the year and the initial contract will be for three years. Interested parties should contact Forestry Commission Wales, Coed y Cymoedd Forest District, Resolven, Neath, SA11 4DR by 4pm on 12 December 2005.
