The final leg of the Chain Reaction Cycles MTB Marathon Series will touch down in Ruthin, north Wales on September 17-18 – with a double-header that also includes the second Exposure Lights Big Night Out of 2011.
So let’s start with the bad news: whatever ride you do you can be sure that there’s a large climb in between you and getting to the top of the Clwydian Range. So pace yourself, click into a low gear, take it steady and winch your way skywards.
The Clwydians are a 35km long chain of hills running from Prestatyn to Llandegla, rising to 554 metres above sea level at their highest point.
With oodles of singletrack lacing the length and breadth of the hills – and a fair collection of steep, fast and pumpy descents to get genuine ‘devil may care’ speed thrills – the Clwydians are a fitting venue for the final round of the year.
The Big Night Out, on the Saturday, is limited to 300 riders, but if you haven’t any lights and are tempted to give it a bash then Chain Reaction Cycles will be offering Exposure Lights for sale, while there will be a charging station on the 40km course in case you run out of juice.
Meanwhile, the final MTB Marathon event will have four routes to choose from – 30km, 50km, 75km and 100km.
Exposure Lights Big Night Out entry costs £32, while a spot in the MTB Marathon ranges from £22-£32 depending on which course you opt for. Riders looking to end the season with a bang can ride both events for £47.
